How to Participate in Earth Day!

As workers in the cleaning industry, we know how important it is to keep surroundings clean. The most important surrounding to keep clean is our planet, which is why we should all celebrate Earth Day this year, April 22nd.  There are many ways to get involved in Earth Day and make a difference in your community. We have listed 11 easy ways to get involved, enjoy!

1. Reduce electricity usage

This includes turning off the lights when you leave a room and unplugging electronics that are not being used, which will ultimately help reduce your electric bill.

2. Go outside

Enjoy all things that earth has to offer. You could take a hike, go to the park, go on a bike ride, just spend a little time outside with Mother Nature. If you're feeling extra Earth friendly, pick up any trash you see while you're outside.

3. Avoid using straws

Straws are often an unnecessary plastic to use and are easy to cut out of your routine. When you go to a bar or restaurant just tell the server that you do not want a straw. If you are a type of person who likes to use straws, they have alternative stainless steel reusable straws that you could bring with you.

4. BYOB (Bring your own bags)

Many people have a different definition for BYOB; this month BYOB means bring your own bags. It's so easy to cut down on plastic usage by bringing your own reusable totes to the grocery store. These bags can be used over and over again and are seamless to incorporate into your routine at the grocery store. Keep in mind if you forget your tote one day, paper bags are a safer alternative.  Bringing your own bags is also encouraged when shopping at the mall.

5. Meatless Monday

Reduce your meat consumption per week. Try a meatless Monday or any day of the week that works best for you. Producing meat requires a lot of water and has tremendous environmental effects on the man-made greenhouse gas emissions.

6. Go Paperless

Avoid printing papers at home or work. Switch paper bills to online. Choose email or text receipt if possible.

7. Reusable drink ware

Instead of using plastic water bottles or coffee cups, switch to stainless steel bottles. This is one of the easiest ways to cut down on mass plastic usage. We also encourage you to bring your own cup when you stop somewhere to buy coffee. We promote these earth friendly practices here at GBrands; at our 2017 holiday party we gave all employees a custom stainless steel reusable water bottle.

8. Reduce water usage

Ways to reduce water usage: cut down on time in the shower, shut off the water while you brush your teeth, shut off the water while you scrub your hands with soap, skip the shower from time to time, and hold off on running the dishwasher until it's full.

9. Inform a friend

It's so easy to get involved in earth friendly activities, why not tell a friend? Let them know some of the practices you have implemented into your daily routine, you can even share this post with them. :)

10. Volunteer

Volunteering is one of the best ways to get involved in the community. Check out earthdaycolumbus.org for all of the volunteer opportunities near you. Go outside and get your hands a little dirty.

11 Plant a tree

Planting a tree improves air quality by taking in carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. This is a great way to get family and friends involved with you in environment friendly practices.

We hope you enjoyed these 11 tips on how to get involved in environmentally friendly practices. We encourage everyone to get involved in this Earth Day challenge!
